Short answer

Google Analytics visit counts, and only after you press Accept. No advertising trackers, no accounts, no forms. We do not receive and do not want anything that identifies you.

Google Analytics

This site runs Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-0E9MJDLNQD) to count how many people arrive, which search terms bring them, and which pages they read. That is the only basis we have for deciding what to keep writing.

It is off by default. On page load we use Google's Consent Mode to set analytics storage to denied, and it only turns on if you press Accept on the banner. Press Reject, or ignore the banner entirely, and no analytics cookie is written to your browser.

Once enabled, what Google receives includes the page URL, the referrer, an approximate location at country or city level, device and browser type, and time on page. IP addresses are processed and anonymised by Google; we never see a raw IP or anything that points at a specific person.

What we do not do

The advertising slot

Pages on this site carry a slot offering advertising space. Today it is a sentence and an email address; no ad network is connected, so there are no third-party advertising cookies. If that ever changes and tracking comes with it, this page gets updated first and the banner asks again.

Changing your mind

Every page has a "Cookie settings" control in the footer. Press it and the banner returns, so you can switch to Reject at any time. Your choice is stored locally in your browser (hcto_consent in localStorage) and is never uploaded anywhere; clearing browser data resets it.

You can also install Google's official Analytics opt-out add-on, which applies across every site.
